How to straighten faux fur after washing or storing

All winter models of GnK children's outerwear have a rich trim on the hood made of natural raccoon or arctic fox fur. Often, after long-term transportation, the fur becomes wrinkled and spoils the appearance of the product. Therefore, it needs to be fluffed up and given freshness. This is very easy to do, just following a few simple rules.

1. The product must be straightened on the hanger so that the fur is in a vertical position, hanging freely, and nothing is squeezing the fur. In this form it should hang for a day. Often the fur straightens out on its own during this time, but it is better to continue care for maximum results.

2. To ensure that all the lint is straightened, brush it with a thick fur brush in the direction of the nap. This must be done carefully and carefully, without resorting to special efforts.

3. Fur still doesn't look fluffy enough? Then it needs to be steamed. To do this, use a special clothes steamer or an iron with a vertical steam function.

Important: when using steam, keep the product at a distance of at least fifty centimeters from the device and hot elements.

4. The steamed fur should be shaken thoroughly, combed with a wide-toothed comb and dried at room temperature in a vertical position.

You will get incredibly fluffy fur, and the product will acquire a rich appearance.

How to iron fur after washing

After washing, the item is laid out on a flat surface, without stretching, straightened out completely. A table and a clothes dryer will do. Drying this way will keep the item in shape, eliminating the need for ironing.

Faux fur cannot be ironed. It is easy to damage; exposure to high temperatures can damage the fibers.

Drying flat ensures no creases. When the item has dried, comb it with a wire brush, lightly touching the fibers. Do not press too hard on the brush. If you systematically roughly tear out the fur, bald patches form and the item loses its appearance.

If wet fur is hung immediately after washing, it may become deformed and it will be difficult to return to its original appearance. The product does not need special ironing, the main thing is to dry it properly.

Smoothing fur after long-term storage

If the item was stored neatly - hanging, in free space, it will not have to be ironed. When it has been crumpled and folded, creases form and the pile looks untidy.

To smooth out heavily wrinkled fur, follow the instructions:

  1. Straighten the item in your hands and hang it on a hanger.
  2. When there are no creases, after combing the item will again look neat.
  3. If severe creases form, place the item in the bathroom, turn on the hot water and close the door. It is necessary to achieve steam accumulation. Leave the item for 10 minutes, then dry and comb.

You can perform the same procedure by hanging the fur over a pan of boiling water. If you have a steamer, you need to steam the back surface of the product, and comb the pile and fluff it up.

Useful notes.

  • It happens that the first time you didn’t manage to paint it the way you wanted - either the color is wrong, or the color didn’t go on smoothly. If this happens, repeat the coloring after 10 days , this time it will definitely work, because now you already have experience)
  • If you are a sophisticated fashionista and simple monochromatic dyeing of faux fur is too simple or boring for you, arm yourself with narrow sponges, thin brushes and stencils. Following the dictates of your imagination, create your masterpiece, even if it’s just specks of color. By the way, drawings can also be applied with an alcohol marker.

Be it a speck or a stripe)

  • And if, when painting, you tie some parts of the product with strong nylon threads, then the end result you will get very impressive designs . My parents (if not my grandparents) used to dye jeans and T-shirts this way. This trick will work if the paint is initially several shades darker than the item being painted.
  • Another option for creative painting of Ecofur is spraying aerosol paint for suede from a distance of 40-70 cm (the distance is determined independently, “to your taste”). Then only the ends will be painted, and the base itself will remain the same. Immediately after painting , comb the fur so that the ends do not stick together - the paint dries quickly!

How to refresh fur and restore shine

During long-term storage, white eco-fur suffers the most. It loses color, turns yellow and looks ugly. To restore its appearance and original shine, the following methods are used:

CompoundMode of application
Freshly squeezed lemon juice and water in a 1:1 ratioSoak gauze or sponge in the solution. Wipe the yellowed area thoroughly along the pile, then against it. After processing, dry and fluff.
Hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, water in proportions 1:1:1Wipe the area with gauze and a sponge soaked in the solution, dry, and comb.

Do not use acidic or caustic agents.

You can buy a ready-made product for cleaning and refreshing fur. It is important to study the composition and purpose of the chosen product and use it according to the instructions. These are often sprays that are sprayed onto the fur. After treatment, the surface is combed.

To restore the original shine, the following methods are used:

  • wipe the surface with a cloth or gauze soaked in glycerin;
  • Mix a small amount of shampoo with 1 tbsp. l. water to make a foamy solution. Soak a cotton pad in the prepared solution and carefully walk it over the entire surface of the item. After 10 minutes, wipe the fur with a cotton ball soaked in clean water. Dry and comb.

If the item is dusty, it is laid out and straightened on a flat surface and the wrong side is beaten with bamboo sticks. When the appearance of the product is severely damaged, contact the dry cleaner.

Dry cleaning of natural and artificial collars

Cleansing in this way is the most gentle. When dry cleaning, the fur or fabric that holds the pile does not get wet, and the fur itself does not suffer from chemicals. Impurities on the hairs are absorbed into loose natural substances and then lightly swept away with a soft brush.

For a white fur collar use:

  • potato starch;
  • talc;
  • flour;
  • semolina.

For dark fur take:

  • rye bran;
  • clean sand (pre-washed, dried and sifted);
  • small sawdust from deciduous trees.

To increase effectiveness, the selected substance is heated in a frying pan before use. Then it is rubbed into the collar with massage movements, and after 5-15 minutes it is removed. As a result, the fur looks refreshed and fluffier.

What to do to keep your fur always fluffy

You can achieve beautiful looking fur using the following techniques:

  • Comb the pile periodically. You can’t pull it too hard, crush it, or tear it. This is done with smooth movements with a metal comb or brush along the pile;
  • Proper storage. After wearing, the item should be immediately hung on hangers or laid out without creases.

You can fluff up heavy pile by treating it with the following composition:

  • 1 tsp. glycerin;
  • 0.3 l. water;
  • 0.3 l. ethyl alcohol.

Treat the lint with a cotton pad or gauze soaked in the composition. Dry and comb well. As a result of using the product, fluffiness and lightness will remain for a long time if stored carefully.

How to wear fur items without them losing their shape

There are no secrets to wearing fake fur. The main thing is to handle the item carefully and carefully and store it correctly. Be careful not to let rain or wet snow get on your item.

When you happen to get caught in heavy rain while wearing them, proceed as follows:

  1. Upon returning home, remove the item and shake it well so that drops of water fall from the pile.
  2. Hang the item on a hanger, the back of a chair or a clothes dryer.
  3. Comb with light movements.
  4. Dry naturally.

You cannot place the item on radiators, heaters, or use a hair dryer.

Take into account body parameters and lifestyle when choosing and wearing fur comfortably:

  • Items are purchased strictly by size. When it presses, it tightens around the buttons, it will become deformed and lose its appearance;
  • Do not carry bags and backpacks on your shoulder, this will protect the lint from abrasion and falling out;
  • In a fur coat made of artificial fur, attention is paid to the sleeves. Constant friction against the car's steering wheel and armrests provokes premature wear and tear. The sleeves become ugly.

Otherwise, proper care of the item outside of use guarantees a long service life.

What can't you do?

The structure of fur resembles human hair. Insufficient care, as well as excessive care, negatively affects the appearance of the product.

It is unacceptable to perform the following actions with fur edges:

  • Soak, wash, wet thoroughly. The skin on which the fur is held (mesh), as well as the fabric base of the artificial collar, does not tolerate moisture. From water they become rough, crack and do not hold the pile well.
  • Dry with a hairdryer or on a radiator, in direct sunlight. The fur should dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
  • Iron. Ironing a collar, even from the inside out, will hopelessly ruin the product.
  • Clean with aggressive chemicals with bleaches, phosphates, enzymes, chlorine. Most cleaning products destroy the structure of the pile because they are designed to combat protein stains (grease, sweat), and natural fur consists of approximately 75% keratin protein. In the case of artificial pile, the reason is different - it tends to accumulate chemicals and become “oaky”.

How to properly store fur items after ironing

To make a faux fur item last longer, you need to store it according to the following rules:

  • Do not roll it up or put it crumpled in a cramped closet. Such material does not tolerate constraint and is easily deformed;
  • Carefully hang on hangers in the closet, leaving free space around;
  • Place moth repellent in a closet where it is permanently stored. This pest can easily ruin any item. The cabinet must be regularly ventilated and moths must not be allowed to breed;
  • Store items in clothing cases, do not use bags or plastic.

As an insect repellent, put dry citrus slices, scented soap in the cupboard, or buy repellents in tablets and plates.

If you store eco-fur carefully, it does not need ironing. Otherwise, you will have to spend time bringing it back to its original form. Often it is enough to lightly brush the surface and it will return to its original state. In advanced cases, you will need to steam and clean it. If this item is not properly cared for, it is not always possible to return it to its original condition. When severe contamination appears, it is better to contact a dry cleaner.

Is it possible to wash the fur trim of the collar in the washing machine?

The choice of cleaning method depends on the color of the edge and its origin.
Many people have debates about whether it is possible to wash fur from a jacket and what methods are allowed to be used. You should know that you cannot use a washing machine when caring for natural fur products. If there is heavy soiling, hand washing using a gentle detergent is allowed. How to wash natural fur from a down jacket at home:

  • The best choice at home is dry cleaning. The fibers are combed with a wide comb to remove any remaining dust and dirt, and then cleaned with a soft horsehair brush.
  • Mink and other short-pile collars can be treated with a slightly damp cloth and a small amount of vinegar to add shine.
  • It is more difficult to clean the edge of an arctic fox or fox; in order not to spoil the thing, it is better to clean it using the soft nozzle of a vacuum cleaner in a gentle mode.

How to wash a faux fur collar: fur substitutes are easier to care for and can withstand wet cleaning as well as hand washing. It is possible to wash the collar in an automatic washing machine if there are delicate care programs. The spin mode is excluded, and instead 1-2 rinse cycles are added.

If the fur is sewn to the collar of a leather jacket, there are not many options for refreshing it quickly and without loss. The collar sewn to the product can only be cleaned by hand, very carefully, avoiding contact of moisture with the skin. For those who are not confident in their actions, the right decision is to dry-clean a leather jacket with fur.

You can tidy up a down jacket with a sewn-on fur collar in the washing machine, choosing a delicate cycle and using liquid detergents.

By adding two or three tennis balls to the drum of the washing machine, you can avoid the formation of lumps of unstraightened fluff in the jacket after washing.

The easiest way to refresh the fur is on the collar of your parka. The product can be washed by hand or in a machine. Parkas are washed at a temperature not exceeding 40 C, choosing a mode for synthetic fabrics, using soft (liquid) detergents.

Spin mode and automatic drying are disabled. Parkas made from membrane fabric are washed only by hand, using special powders for this type of fabric.
