How to choose a mink coat in Greece?

It must be said that just a few years ago, mink coats from Greece literally became the talk of the town. Literally everyone talked about them, raved about them and dreamed about them. But gradually the boom of fur coat tours to Greece somehow slowly began to subside. Cheaper analogues from China have appeared on sale. But still, Greek fur coats still remain unrivaled when comparing price and quality. To buy a high-quality mink coat in Greece, it is best to go to the Greek town of Kastoria, where fur coats are mainly produced, and buy it directly from the factory. Then you will not have any fears that you were handed a fake.

Greek fur coats have long been considered a sign of the highest professionalism and have become famous throughout the world for their quality. The Greek Fur Institute, recently created in the country, united all the furrier unions of the city of Kastoria, and therefore, it is the unconditional guarantor of all fur coats with the “GreekFur” trademark.

If you do not have the opportunity to go directly to the factory, then, of course, you will need to carefully approach the purchase of a fur coat. First of all, pay attention to exactly how the sleeves, armpits, collars and shoulder seams are sewn. It is in these places that marriage is most often noticeable. As a rule, the reverse side of the product is reinforced with cord, it is sewn by hand, and it already serves as a guarantor of the wear resistance of the product. The cord is most often made of silk, which also serves as insulation.

Take the fur coat in your hands and run your hand along the pile against the grain. If the fur coat is of high quality, the fur will quickly return to its original shape. Then shake the fur coat. Don't be afraid if a few lint falls off during this process. Greek mink coats may lose some of their fur when shaken. Do not panic, because this is a natural process for all products that have been processed. However, the sprinkling process should be barely noticeable, and not acquire a global scale. Otherwise, there are two options - either the fur coat is stored incorrectly, or simply the fur is of poor quality. In order to check the quality of the product, a small cut is usually made at the hem.

If you are confused by the thickness of the fur, it seems “liquid” or somehow “not right” to you, then you can check with the seller what kind of mink the fur coat is made from. The fact is that if a mink was killed in winter, then its fur at that time is thick and fluffy. But in the summer, these animals, on the contrary, shed.

Sometimes fur is “liquid” due to the fact that it was simply processed incorrectly. Typically, furriers stretch the hide on a special stand and treat it with a special solution. The skin stretches, becomes thinner and more fragile. If the fur coat is made from properly dressed skins, then it will look “thick”, its fur will be shiny and thick, without creases. In a high-quality fur coat, the seams will be sewn very carefully, thinly and will almost not be palpable.

If the seller at the market is calm about the quality of his fur coat, then he may well let you experiment with it - tug, pull the fur, see how the seams and pile behave when stretched. If the fur, after you run your hand against the grain, quickly falls into place, and the skin is soft to the touch, then everything is fine with your fur coat. By the way, some emotional and conscientious sellers even throw fur coats on the floor and then trample them under their feet, proving their quality. It really looks a little wild.

The color of a fur coat is of great importance. The cheapest mink is considered to be walnut or light brown, followed by dark brown. Then, after them, in turn, various shades of red color - from juicy golden honey to light amber. The more expensive mink colors are black, gray, beige and blue. The next most expensive mink will be the tourmaline color (brown long hair with a beige undercoat). Today, the most expensive mink is the color “black diamond”. This is the same black color, only with a blue or purple tint. If the buyer is not very knowledgeable in such matters, then it will be quite difficult for him to distinguish it from just a black mink. And, unfortunately, craftsmen-furriers have learned to cleverly dye cheaper furs so that it is very difficult to distinguish at first (especially inexperienced) glance. Part the undercoat with your fingers and check the color of the skin. If it has a white color, then this is a natural fur coat that has not been dyed.

Greek white mink coats are usually inexpensive, since they are still very easily soiled, and besides, they begin to turn yellow over time. Well, the cheapest are considered to be fur coats sewn from individual pieces. They are short-lived, after just a few years they begin to come apart at the seams and lose their presentation. Therefore, when going to Greece to buy a mink coat, you must firmly remember that “free cheese can only be found in a mousetrap.” Choose products in strict accordance with its quality and price. A good fur coat simply cannot be cheap. Then the fur you purchase will last a long time and bring you real pleasure.

How to distinguish a Greek mink coat from a Chinese one?

Section about fur coats: Any girl who wants to buy a mink coat knows that there are Greek, Italian, Canadian, Russian and Chinese fur coats.

Chinese and Russian furs are cheaper than European ones, but their quality is lower - this is generally what they think.

A Chinese mink coat is, of course, also a good thing, but, you see, you really don’t want to buy a fur coat from China at the price of a Canadian or Greek one, right? And in order not to be deceived, we need to be fully prepared, even before going to a fur salon.

Fur has several characteristics that can tell you where the animal was raised. If you know them, they won’t be able to deceive you.

So let's discuss them.

How to distinguish Chinese mink from mink from other countries?

Let's be honest, many sellers commit this petty lie, passing off Chinese mink as European. The price of deception is quite impressive: from thirty to hundreds of thousands of rubles, which you have to pay for what you think is a high-quality Greek fur coat, and then you find out that it was actually made in China, from Chinese skins.

It's a shame? Not that word!

How to protect yourself from these lies?

Let's start with the fact that if an unscrupulous seller is determined to deceive you, then it is pointless to ask where the fur coat comes from. They will answer you what you want to hear.

If you know the main manufacturers and you can take the seller at his word, then ask a few tricky questions, but know that the scammer will still stand his ground.

It is far better to examine the fur for evidence that will indicate where the animals were raised.

So, the most important thing:

♦ Assess the height of the spine.

The awn is hard hair; it differs from the down in hardness and height.

The Chinese mink has a pronounced high awn that rises above the underfur. Outwardly, it looks as if it were “prickly”, and the spine seems to lie on the undergrowth, and does not stick out vertically.

On the left is high-quality Chinese mink, on the right is Chinese mink of lesser quality.

The awns of Chinese mink are not always high; skins with the so-called awns that have not emerged are sometimes passed off as Scandinavian or American.

In this case, we look at other criteria.

♦ Shine.

The shine of Chinese mink is not entirely uniform; the skin does not “flow”, but shines in patches. In addition, Chinese mink has a characteristic glassy sheen.

♦ Undercoat.

The undercoat of the Chinese mink differs depending on the awn.

If it is tall “classic”, then the undercoat will not be thick.

Skins with an intact awn are black in color and have a thick down. They are often passed off as expensive black mink, but in this case, just look at the color of the flesh: a natural black mink will have light flesh, a dyed black mink will have black flesh, and if the fur has been tinted, the shade of the flesh will also change.

From left to right: North American mink, Scandinavian mink, Russian mink

It is important to remember that a Greek or Chinese fur coat will be considered only by its tailoring.

The fact is that Italian and Greek fur coats are mostly made from skins of North American, Scandinavian, and Finnish origin.

These parameters will let you understand where the animals grew up, and the place of production of the fur coat itself must be determined by the technological features of tailoring.

It also happens that European or American fur is used to sew fur coats in China. Small Greek production companies often suffer from this. In this case, you need to check the quality of both fur and tailoring.

Never rush into buying a fur coat, choose carefully, and be sure to stock up on information before going to the store!

Fur coats can change lives!

The most popular destinations from which fur coats are delivered to Yakutsk are Greece and China. We will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of mink coats produced in these countries with the director of the Serbeke salon, Nyurgustana Lukina.

“NV”: Nyurgustana Ivanovna, convince me that I have to pay 150 thousand for a Greek mink coat, while I can buy a Chinese one for 50 thousand rubles.

— N.L.: Our people have the impression that Greek fur coats are expensive. In fact, at the price you mentioned, branded exclusive fur coats are offered. For example, “Avanti” is prestige, a status thing. Like a handbag from Christian Dior or Chanel.

Then tell me, how much does a long fur coat with a hood cost in your salon?

— Prices for fur coats from Greece in our salon start from 69 thousand rubles. But let's take the average price for a Greek fur coat - 80,000 rubles and, suppose, a Chinese-made fur coat for 50,000 rubles. So, if you’re lucky, you carry a Chinese fur coat for about five years. Therefore, we divide 50,000 by 5 years, we get a wear resistance equal to 10,000. You don’t wear a Greek fur coat for less than 10 years, as a result, the wear resistance of this fur coat will be equal to 8,000. So consider that it is more profitable for you to buy a fur coat for 50,000 and wear for at most five years or for 80,000 and wear for ten years.

Do you need to wear a fur coat for ten years?

— In order to appreciate the merits of a fur coat, you need to buy it. Greek fur coats have one feature - they never get boring. I even noticed one fact: most often people come and ask to sell a fur coat of the same model that they wore. A person must buy his own fur coat, and then he will not have the desire to change it.

What is the secret of this feature?

— The Greeks have been producing fur coats for five centuries. A Greek fur coat is already a guarantee of quality, like Italian boots and Swiss watches. This item is made with love, which you will feel every time you put on your fur coat. In addition, a fur coat made in Greece changes a woman. If you even look at some woman in a fur coat, then I assure you that this lady is wearing a fur coat from Greece.

Sounds convincing. How can a fur coat influence and even change a woman?

- The pleasure with which you will wear your fur coat cannot be compared with anything. Self-esteem rises, confidence appears, people's attitudes change. Therefore, I assure you that a fur coat can affect your life, your quality of life.

How to choose a fur coat, where to start?

— First of all, you need to pay attention to the fur, then to the model. If you expect to wear a fur coat for a long time, then I advise you to opt for classic models with high-quality fur. In addition, I strongly advise you to go to salons and try on a lot of fur coats. After all, this purchase will last for a long time.

Aren't you afraid of competition?

— Do you know why we have very good sales during exhibitions? Because buyers have the opportunity to compare.

Is it really true that only fur coats made in Greece and Italy are displayed in your salon?

— Yes, we sell fur coats, the quality of which we are fundamentally confident in.

Any woman dreams of having several fur coats: for going out, for work...

- If this fur coat is of good quality, then it is enough to have one fur coat. You can change your appearance with the help of various designer gadgets.

Do fur coats need insulation? After all, Greece is a warm country, and can fur coats withstand our severe frosts?

— Each fur has its own heat resistance, for example, in a beaver fur coat you are not afraid of frost up to 80 degrees, in a raccoon coat - up to 60 degrees. The Greek fur coat is not stretched, has a natural fur density that will protect you from frost.

Now there is a crisis, and few can afford an expensive fur coat...

— N.L.: In times of crisis, it makes sense to buy quality items in order to wear them for a longer time, and besides, a fur coat is an investment.

Blackglama fur coats are very popular now. What is the difference?

- Blackglama is a thing! I myself have worn blackglama for seven years, and it has not lost its appearance at all. In general, this type of fur has a wear life of twenty years. Thus, blackglama is not only beauty, but also quality.

Compared to the 90s, when cheap goods, including fur coats, flooded into the market, have Yakut residents become more discerning and demanding of quality?

— Yes, our women have refined taste, in some ways Yakut women are similar to French women. Discreet things suit them, without vulgarity and tinsel. And, I’ll tell you that Greek fur coats, with their clean cut, laconicism and at the same time sophistication, suit our women perfectly.
