How to check the authenticity of a Blackglama mink coat?

The masters of counterfeits go to great lengths to sell another mink under the guise of Black Glama:

- bleach the flesh to hide traces of tinting

- tint inexpensive dark brown mink bred in China

— a large percentage is made up of black skins with the defect “unbroken awn,” which to the untrained eye resembles North American mink; such products are widely represented at the average price level on the Russian market.

Serial number on the label of the BlackGlama fur coat

First of all, a fur coat made from Black glama mink purchased at an auction must have a label with a serial number sewn onto the lining.

The label has additional security features: woven colored threads on the reverse side and a unique number. Since 2010, a “watermark” has been added to the label - the Blackglama inscriptions on the background of the label, which glow under ultraviolet light.

To check the authenticity of the Blackglama fur label you need to: go to the website www.blackglama.com, in the Authenticity section, enter the city, country and serial number indicated on the label, click “Verify”. The program will determine if this tag number is genuine.

The label has a unique number. To check the authenticity of the Black NAFA label you need to: go to the website www.nafa.ca, in the Label Authenticity section, enter the city, country and serial number indicated on the label, click “Submit”. The program will determine if this tag number is genuine.

You can also choose a Black glama fur coat based on appearance

The flesh should be soft, elastic, dense without external defects. If it feels thin to the touch, the skin has most likely been stretched or bleached to hide traces of tinting.

The underfur of the skins should be very thick and even; if you blow on the mink, the fur should not be visible.

But the most reliable way to buy an authentic Blackglama mink coat is from a trusted manufacturer.

The fashion house “Furs from Mary” has more than 10 years of experience; each mink purchased at auction has quality certificates.

Our regular customers who return for a new fur product are the best proof that we make fur coats only from high-quality raw materials!

Blackglama fur coats is a brand under which fur products made from black velvet North American mink are sold.

Look at the fur of the North American mink Blackglama. It is characterized by dense fur, short hair, rich black color with a brown or dark blue tint. It can also have a charcoal color and even a hint of oil.

The fur looks like it has been sheared, but no one did this, otherwise it would be tantamount to making minced meat from the tenderloin!

Original black fur coat Blackglama

Blackglama is a species of North American mink. Its fur is distinguished by short guard hairs and a high, but rather dense overcoat, which in appearance resembles the appearance of a plucked mink.

The highlight of the Blackglama mink is the brown tint of black fur . The fur fibers are short, and the base is leather, white, thin and soft, like fabric. That is why it is almost impossible to fake the fur of this animal. These fur properties distinguish Blackglama from other types of mink .

All rights to sell Blackglama fur belong to the American company American Legend . Each batch of this fur is subject to mandatory certification, after which it is assigned an individual identification number. Thanks to this measure, every buyer has the opportunity to check the authenticity of a blackglama fur product on the company’s official website.

How to check the number of a BLACKGLAMA® fur coat by the number on the label.

Here you could immediately provide a link to the NAFA website and consider your mission accomplished. But!

  • Firstly, why on the site of the Canadian auction NAFA, and not on the “native” American site Blackglama, as it has been for decades?
  • Secondly, by clicking on this link and checking your fur coat number, you may well get a heart rupture, or some kind of hypertensive crisis. We don’t need either one or the other, so first let’s prepare and understand some of the details.

on the page menu

Problems with checking BLACKGLAMA® labels.

Until February 2021, the BLACKGLAMA® brand was owned by American Legend Cooperative (ALC) , USA, Seattle, Washington. Blackglama mink was sold at his own auction under his own label, equipped with a unique number, several degrees of protection, including glow in ultraviolet light. True, sophistication in protection did not come immediately and labels went through several generations of development. But it seems that their time has passed and they are no longer of practical interest to us.

BLACKGLAMA® label from American Legend Cooperative.

To check a fur coat, you had to go to the website validator.blackglama.com (this is not a link, do not click), enter the number on the fur coat label in a special form and receive the answer “Yor mink is authentic” (your mink is real), or, if you are unlucky – “Your serial number xxxxxx is not recognized in our databese” (Your number xxxxxxx was not found in our database).

BLACKGLAMA® label from ALC in ultraviolet.

The label database on blackglame's "native" site was large and contained numbers for almost all years. For example, the number JM60061 from the old label was clearly visible, and an explanation was given that the label was an old one.

New labels from NAFA.

In February 2021, the American Legend Cooperative (ALC) sold the BLACKGLAMA® brand to the Canadian fur auction NAFA (North American Fur Auctions) . At the same time, the label remained almost unchanged, only the inscription AMERICAN LEGEND® MINK was replaced with EXCLUSIVELY BY NAFA. I checked this label on the old blackglama website. There were no problems.

A transitional version of the BLACKGLAMA® label from NAFA.

This transition period soon ended and NAFA introduced its own label for blackglama. It became unified with the rest of the NAFA auction labels and lost all types of personal protection previously developed in ALC. Instead, NAFA applied its own protection by embedding a special fiber into the label, which becomes visible only when illuminated by a special source of black(!?) radiation. These emitters are issued to fur buyers and the seller of the fur coat must use it to demonstrate the presence of protective fiber.

BLACKGLAMA® label from NAFA. Current option.

But as of January 2021, these emitters have not yet reached sellers in stores. Let's hope they arrive soon. This new label should already be checked on the NAFA website. Everything would be fine, but the database was not transferred from the Blackglama website to the NAFA website! Moreover, checking on the blackglama website was disabled! As a result, there was no place to check all the labels released by American Legend Cooperative. This means that there is nowhere to check fur coats that were not sold out yet, as well as second-hand fur coats!

Another feature of today's blackglama is that at a fur auction the buyer of the furs decides which label to take - BLACKGLAMA® or Black NAFA® .

To be fair, let’s say that at the level of fur quality, the difference between blackglama and blacknafa, other things being equal, is practically absent - these are the same breed of mink, raised in the same conditions. It’s just that blackglama has a higher premium for the brand. Draw your own conclusions...

What follows from the above? There are now at least three types of BLACKGLAMA® labels:

  1. "Native" BLACKGLAMA® labels from the American Legend Cooperative auction.
  2. Intermediate labels BLACKGLAMA® from the Canadian auction NAFA based on the original ones with a modified top line.
  3. New “native” ones from the NAFA auction.

But now only the third option can be reliably checked! We'll talk about this further.

on the page menu

Where to check a blackglam fur coat by number.

Before the problems with the NAFA auction began, to check the number you had to go to the page www.nafa.ca/webcenter/portal/Fashion/pages_labelauthenticity. Currently there is no verification form. As soon as the situation returns to normal, the link will be posted. In the meantime, here is an algorithm of actions when checking a blackglama number. I hope, as in the case of the closure of the “native” ALC auction, it will be preserved.

So, what did we see on the verification page? There were two bookmarks on it - NAFA LABELS

and
LABEL AUTHENTICITY
. Click on the second one and we see this picture:

Fur label check page from NAFA auction.

In addition to the BLACKGLAMA® labels, this page checks four other types of NAFA auction fur labels. Images of all five labels are shown at the top of the page. Here they are:

Label images of the five NAFA fur brands that are reviewed on the page.

  • Black NAFA®
  • BLACKGLAMA®
  • NAFA® Fox
  • NAFA® Mink
  • NAFA® Northern

Then comes the text, my best translation of the meaning of which is as follows:

Consumers who want to verify the authenticity of labels on fur coats are very concerned about the problem of counterfeit luxury labels. To protect its labels, NAFA embeds a special security fiber into them , access to which is strictly limited. This unique fiber is visible only when illuminated with a special black light source , which is issued to retailers and must be demonstrated to the buyer of the product by them. Each NAFA label contains its own unique registration number to ensure authenticity. To verify your NAFA brand, enter your serial number in the text box below:

The meaning of the input field, I think, is clear. The numbers below the VERIFY button are your IP address.

Text under the input form:

For additional inquiries about your NAFA label or assistance in validating an old label , contact Buyer Services at NAFA – or

Comment.

The black lantern is not yet available in stores.

And finally, let's enter the label number from the blackglama fur coat from the NAFA auction . You can take the number from your fur coat, but I will use a photo of a fur coat from the Greek factory Fokos, produced in 2021. As you can see, it already has the new native NAFA labels on it. We don’t pay attention to the sable label – it’s the collar fur.

We insert number BG012265 into the form and get:

Successful verification of the BLACKGLAMA® label on the NAFA website.

Everything is ok, the number is through! Translation, I think, is not needed. I hope everything went well for you too.

on the page menu

What is blackglama really?

Let's start with deciphering the word. Translated from English, “black” is black, and GLaMA (Great Lakes Mink Association) is an abbreviation for a manufacturer from the Great Lakes region in America. Naturally, this is a piece product, and such fur coats cannot be displayed in all stores.

The official supplier of fur is , whose headquarters are located in Seattle, USA. This corporation unites farmers and breeders of the unique American black mink. Animals are kept in specific conditions on a special diet. At fur farms, specialists engage in genetic selection of fur.

This fur is sold only at fur auctions in Seattle. Blackglama fur coats, if worn and stored correctly, can last more than 20 years. The price does not fall on them, so this is a truly profitable investment.

The BLACKGLAMA® label did not make it through! What's wrong?

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (our Shakespeare)

It may happen that you do not receive confirmation of the legality of your label as a result of the verification. Let's see what this looks like and why it might happen.

For testing purposes, I always take the obviously incorrect label number LM01918. We enter it into the form and get this somewhat vague answer:

We are entering an incorrect BLACKGLAMA® label number.

we receive the following message:

There were difficulties identifying your number online. Please contact and our customer service will assist you with verification.

The result of the check says that our label was not found in the database, but they are not taking any risks to say for sure that the label is fake, but suggest writing them a letter and trying to figure out the situation. Why bother figuring it out when I know for sure that the number I entered is fake!?

It follows that the NAFA website, unlike the old BLACKGLAMA website, cannot accurately distinguish a fake from a real label. The likely reason is the lack of a complete database of BLACKGLAMA® labels.

Let's do one more check, now enter the number of the correct, but old, approximately 2010, blackglama label JM60061:

Enter the number of the old label.

The number doesn’t work, although it’s definitely not fake! Here's proof of that:

Screenshot of the same old number being verified on the Blackglama website in 2013.

As you can see, in the old days, when checking this number on the native blackglama website on the page validator.blackglama.com (screenshot from 2013), the form gave the answer:

Your mink is real. Note: This is a classic label that was released in previous years.

Let's now take an even older one

2000s label JM66886. I checked it and, strangely, it made it through! Okay, let's take the 2021 label number RM14905. He made it through!

Conclusion: Not all valid BLACKGLAMA® label numbers from previous years are verified on the NAFA website! The probable reason is that the database of BLACKGLAMA® labels has not been completely transferred, there are holes, like “I remember here, I don’t remember here.”

How can this knowledge help you? If you buy a blackglame fur coat second hand, or from old fur with old numbers, then even with the correct label you can get a negative answer. Don’t rush to get too upset, write a letter to NAFA, perhaps your label was in one of the “holes” in the database.

What does the number check on the BLACKGLAMA® label check?

The title smacks of a bit of a tautology, but forgive me, that’s exactly how it can be formulated. The answer to this sounds banal:

Checking a number on a BLACKGLAMA® label only checks whether that number is in the NAFA® auction database! NO MORE !

What's the problem? The number is broken, what else are we missing? You never know... For example, the BLACKGLAMA® fur itself may not be enough! Unclear? I'll explain now.

Take a dusty potato bag, stick a piece of paper with the correct blackglama number on it with tape and “punch” it as we have already learned. Get the obvious answer - a dust bag is a coat of blackglam!!! Do you understand now? The label can be sewn onto anything, and that “anything” doesn’t have to be a BLACKGLAMA® fur coat! Therefore, before you go to buy blackglama, understand a little what this fur looks like, how it differs from European furs Copenhagen Furs, SAGA Furs. This is not empty advice, this is an experience paid for with considerable money from more than one buyer, which you are currently receiving for free.

And don’t forget that the BLACKGLAMA® labels themselves can be fake and hundreds and thousands of fakes can be released for one correct number and all of them will make their way onto the site. Do you understand?

And one more point directly related to the transition of blackglama to the NAFA auction. As mentioned above, on the website, in the form for checking the number, not only blackglama labels are checked, but also four more native NAFA furs.

But during verification, the answer is given without specifying the type of fur, which potentially expands the possibilities of counterfeiting blackglama labels as the number of legal numbers increases.

How to check the authenticity of a Blackglama mink coat?

2017-06-29

You can choose your ideal fur coat for a long time, look through catalogs and follow the latest fashion trends, or you can see once what a Blackglama mink looks like and no longer think about anything other than beautiful and velvety fur. Products made from such mink are exclusive, expensive models.

Fans of strict classics simply cannot pass by a black mink winter coat, and those who previously looked in the direction of other color options will definitely pay attention to a model made of mink such as Blackglama mink. Why? Yes, because the appearance of a fur coat made from such fur is simply inimitable. Indeed, it is extremely difficult to convey. Color is difficult to fake, even using modern painting and tinting technologies, because natural luxury is given by nature.

Genuine Blackglama fur itself stands out from the general mass of mink products, and this despite the fact that the variety of colors, shades, and the very texture of mink coats is very, very large. But the most expensive of all is the “black diamond” - this is precisely the precious “nickname” that the Blackglama mink received.

Blackglama and her worldwide fame

As you know, advertising is the engine of trade. But some products only need to declare themselves, hint about their existence, in order for people to know about them and start talking about them. Then everything happens by itself. The buyer simply falls in love with the products offered, and its fame begins to grow like a snowball. Actually, that’s exactly what happened with Blackglama’s mink.

Advertising of fur from the New World started back in the 40s of the last century and quickly gained popularity. Blackglama has declared itself as a trademark (TM), supplying the market with exclusive black fur, and of an exceptionally high class. What does the name TM itself mean? If everything is clear with the word “black” - it is the color black, then what “glama” is remains a mystery to many. "Glama" stands for "Great Lakes Mink Association", and in Russian "Mink Association of the Great Lakes". Actually, this is an abbreviation for the manufacturer of black mink.

Blackglama's mink is special. The number of products from this type of fur-bearing animal on the market is limited. Black beauty (we are talking about real Blackglame, and not about fakes or dyed “analogs” that try to “copy” exclusive fur) among all the offered options for winter fur clothing is only about 2% of all “mink products”.

Blackglama – original or fake?

Black pelts are sold in limited quantities at a special fur auction. Moreover, not all fur plates fall under the classification of ideal raw materials. But those that are recognized by experts as the best are highly valued and go under the hammer (in lots) at a respectable price. Hence the pattern:

  • there are few, and even very few, real “black diamonds” in stores;
  • the price for an exclusive simply cannot be low (if you are offered Blackglama for the price of a Scandinavian mink, think about the “good” intentions of the seller and the authenticity of the product).

Most often, when describing the benefits of mink fur, manufacturers talk about how soft, warm and shiny it is. Most of these qualities are also inherent in mink bred on the North American continent. Only there is one “but”. She, unlike her relatives, cannot be called brilliant. There are other nuances that distinguish this species.

Mink quality

How to distinguish a real, genuine Blackglama from a skillful fake? What is this luxurious mink fur, raised on farms on another continent, famous for? What are the features of this fur and what are its distinctive characteristics? So, when choosing a fluffy Blackglama, you need to pay attention to the following details:

  • color: it has already been said that Blackglama mink is black. But this black one is special. It is often compared to the color of oil; it “plays” with a light, barely noticeable brown tint;
  • shine: the fur does not have a pronounced shine. It would be more correct to call it matte or, rather, velvet-like. This special texture is created due to the ratio of the length of the guard hairs and the underfur. The spine itself is almost level with the underfur, it is soft, and therefore the fur itself is pleasant to the touch;
  • to the touch: touching the fur, you can feel how softly it envelops your fingers, but at the same time has its own special natural elasticity;
  • quantity: there simply cannot be a lot of blackglama mink in the store (taking into account the fact that it is only about 2% of all mink fur products on the market);
  • price: “black diamond” cannot be cheap, if only because of the costs that are necessary to obtain an exquisite type of fur (breeding work, special food for mink, etc.);
  • consumer qualities: black mink fur justifies its cost not only by its beauty, but also by the durability of the product. Blackglama's mink will last for many seasons. Due to its durability and quality of processing and tailoring, the fur coat is well suited to dry cleaning (although not often, the product may need such a procedure);
  • authenticity: any fur coat made from “oil” mink, without exception, has a quality certificate. Each product has its own label tag with a specific serial number, which in two clicks determines the uniqueness and authenticity of the fur coat.

As a result, we can say that Blackglama mink is a real diamond in a woman’s wardrobe. This is natural fur, in which its natural color and its natural qualities (softness, warmth, etc.) are valued. Products that are amazing in appearance are made from black mink skins; interesting models of winter fluffy fur coats can be viewed in our catalog.

Is there a blackglama coat without the BLACKGLAMA® label?

There are two directly opposite answers to this question.

No, it doesn't happen!

The BLACKGLAMA® trademark is registered and belongs to its copyright holder. Previously American Legend Cooperative (ALC) until February 2021, it is now NAFA® Canadian Fur Auction. Only the legal owner of the BLACKGLAMA® trademark has the right to assign the title of blackglama to his furs, issue the appropriate labels, and only fur coats made from such fur have the right to be called a blackglama fur coat.

Yes, sometimes!

Blackglama is a very good mink of a special breed, but still also a mink. Some farmers raise mink of the same breed as the mink from which BLACKGLAMA® is selected, but their fur cannot be accepted for auction, as the farm must be certified accordingly. And then fur coats appear, about which sellers say that they are blackglama, but they cannot provide a label. By law, they are not entitled to be called BLACKGLAMA®. In this case, this is simply an indication of the mink breed, and not the quality of the fur.

ABOUT HOW TO CHECK A BLACKGLAMA FUR FUR COAT AND DETERMINE ITS AUTHENTICITY

The exquisite Blackglama fur coat made from North American mink fur is not just a high-quality fur product. This is truly a status item and, let’s not be afraid of this word, a cult item, testifying to the high level of aspirations of its owner. If you also want to purchase or check the authenticity of a Blackglama fur coat, then our article will be useful to you.

Spectacular Blackglama fur coats are designed for women who are accustomed to choosing for themselves only the best from any assortment. If we were asked to describe the Blackglama fur coat in two words, we would answer that it is “captivating luxury”. And we think that all representatives of the fair sex who want to find out how to check a Blackglama fur coat for authenticity would agree with this phrase.

Unfortunately, today the Blackglama brand is the most counterfeited brand in the fur industry. Since real Blackglama is the most expensive mink in the world, the desire of scammers to make money on the ignorance of buyers is quite understandable. Therefore, we decided to tell you how to check a Blackglama fur coat and determine its authenticity. We invite everyone who is interested in purchasing a truly high-quality item to read it.

The selection of the exclusive Blackglama mink is carried out exclusively by farms in North America. The name of the company that supplies this fur to the market is familiar to everyone: American Legend (Seattle, USA).

Fur coats are fur coats, but what does GlobEx have to do with it?

And despite the fact that you are unlikely to be able to find at least one other travel agency in the vast expanses of Russia that has just as carefully and deeply understood the issues of fur tourism and the fur coats themselves. And not on the Internet, but in person! We toured and visited Greek factories in Kastoria and Istanbul, visited almost all fur shops in Dubai, are familiar with many fur and leather sellers in Antalya and... so on, so on, so on... In general, if you want to relax and buy a fur coat at the same time, contact us!

That's all! All I can do is wish you a warm fur coat made of real, beautiful blackglama! Good luck!
