Recently, hats made from sewn mink have become increasingly popular. Such models do not leave the world catwalks of fur fashion, what is their secret? Products made from knitted mink are practically in no way inferior to their all-fur counterparts, and thanks to modern manufacturing technologies and the use of wool blend thread, they provide excellent warmth even in severe frosts. Such hats are well suited for the autumn-spring period, when a solid fur hat will be too hot, but you still want to complement your look with natural fur.
Manufacturing technology for knitted mink products
There are several ways to produce mink products. The first is that small, equal-sized strips of fur are tied onto the main yarn. To ensure that the product can withstand frost well, a wool or half-woolen double thread is used for the base. Gradually the entire headdress becomes fur. The advantage of this manufacturing method is that in this way you can make a hat from combined materials by combining furs of different types or colors.
In the second, a whole mink skin is cut into equal strips and carefully sewn to a knitted base. In this case, the product turns out to be less voluminous and retains its shape better.

Knitted fur hats. Master classes + video The principle of making hats with fur
Silver fox hat. Master class No. 1
Materials
* fur (collar) * wool about 100 gr. * hook No. 3 Manufacturing method
1. Draw the fur into strips of about 0.5 cm and cut it. (I cut it with a knife for working with wood, it is very thin and VERY sharp, you can cut it with a stationery knife. Sort by quality. Since I had a sewn collar, there were furs of different quality in it, the best ones in one pile, the rest in another (useful). 2. Knitting itself: 3. For size 56 I cast on 110 air loops, according to the girth of the head. Knitted in a spiral. 4. 1 row - single crochets, 5. 2 row we begin to “tie” the fur, apply the mesh to knitting and knit a single crochet, while inserting a hook into the loop and at the back between the fur near the flesh, grab the thread and knit a regular single crochet, then knit a single crochet without fur, and so we alternate a stitch with fur and 1 or 2 without fur 6. 3rd row of stitches without kakid, we do not tie fur. 7. 4th row we knit as 2 and so on, alternating a row with fur, a row without fur, if the fur is of high quality, then you can try knitting 2 rows without fur. 8. Somewhere after 8 cm I started decreasing, first I made decreases of 5 stitches in a row where there was no fur, and knitted the row with fur without decreases. Approaching the top of the head, I switched to decreasing stitches - 6 single crochets in each row, also alternating a row with fur and a row without fur. I couldn’t completely close the hole, but it’s not visible from the outside, the fur covers it. 9. I sewed the fur strips as I knitted, so that the fur thread would not be too long. In this case, it is important to observe the direction of the fur; sew it with a simple thread and a needle.
Knitted fur hat size 56
The model is crocheted and trimmed with fur. You will need: 50 g thick black yarn; fur strips approximately 1 cm wide; hook No. 4; hat elastic 80 cm; fur trim pompoms 7 pieces; 2 fur tails; 2 metal beads. According to scheme 1, knit the bottom of the cap. Attention! The diagram shows 5 rows with expansion. Depending on the thickness of your yarn and the density of knitting, you can increase the number of rows of the bottom so that its diameter is approximately 10-12 cm. Next, knit the rows with a mesh exactly until the height of the cap is approximately 20-22 cm. After this, prepare fur strips. To do this, draw strips about 1 cm wide along the flesh. Then, using a sharp razor, carefully cut the flesh along the marked lines, and then sew it with a seam over the edge into a continuous strip. If you are confident in your abilities, then you can mark the tape along the inside in the form of a spiral, starting from the outer edge. After cutting the fur, lightly moisten the flesh, put it in a plastic bag and place it in a warm place for about 1 hour. Then carefully straighten it, stretching the edges, and dry it. Use the finished fur ribbon to wrap the rows of the mesh, focusing on diagram 2. First, sew around the edge of the cap, clasping the edge, as if making a seam “over the edge.” Finally, sew the edges of the strip. Then sew diagonal rows, each with a separate strip. After this, sheathe the horizontal row. Sew fur pompoms onto the bottom of the hat. Pull the hat elastic through the mesh cells along the edge of the hat, put a bead on each end and sew on a fur tail.

Advantages of a knitted mink hat (photo)
- original appearance thanks to the use of different knitting techniques and combinations of materials;
- affordable price , to buy knitted mink inexpensively , its cost is much less than its all-fur counterparts;
- comfort when using , a knitted mink hat takes the anatomical shape of the head, it is soft and pleasant to the touch;
- lighter weight than solid fur hats - at the end of the day there will be no feeling of fatigue in the neck and shoulders;
- a large selection of models allows you to complement your image with a high-quality headdress, both for girls and respectable ladies;
- Its compact size allows you to hide the sewn-on mink hat in your handbag; in the summer it takes up very little space when stored on a shelf in a closet.
Knitted fur hat: choosing fur and yarn
To knit a fur hat you will need:
- Fluffy natural fur, you can use it, but you should pay attention to the following criteria: the fur is dense, shiny, does not fray, the inner layer (the back side of the fur skin, the skin on which the hairs are held) is elastic, not dry, and does not crack. It is best to select skins where the flesh and fur are the same color or similar. For example, black fur, black or chocolate, or gray flesh. But if black fur has beige flesh, the work will be much harder;
- Yarn of medium thickness (about 160 m per 100 g of yarn), to match the flesh and fur, respectively. It will take about 100-150 g;
- Circular or toe knitting needles, 5 pcs. Please note that the recommended knitting needle numbers are always written on the yarn packaging. You need to choose the highest value so that the hat turns out loose.
And a few more tips on choosing fur. It is best to choose long fur, as long strips will be required. Ideally, it will be one piece, but if this is not the case, you can sew fur strips together, sewing one to the other until you get the required length. For those who have quality fur but it's short, don't worry, we have an idea for you too!
The fur can be either rabbit or arctic fox, nutria or astrakhan fur. But it must be dense and fluffy. The most beautiful hats are made from mink, raccoon and arctic fox fur.
Before cutting the strips, try this test:
- Rub the skin over a sheet of white paper. The fur should not fall off;
- Brush the fur with a round-tipped comb in the direction the fur grows. It is acceptable for a little lint to remain on the comb, but if the comb is clogged with undercoat, the fur will most likely fall off both during work and during wear;
- If the fur is used, see if it needs cleaning. If yes, clean it first, and only then start working with it.
Now regarding the yarn. It can be smooth and fluffy. But you shouldn’t choose carefully, as it simply won’t be visible under thick fur. In this case, the yarn should be pleasant to the body, since it will directly adhere to the body.
The main successful types of knitted mink hats:
A knitted mink hood is perfect for winter short, loose-fitting coats, leather jackets and down jackets. Typically, such headdresses are decorated with elegant decorative elements, in this case the image is even more feminine and sweet. Thanks to its original shape, the hood retains heat well and does not crush the hair.
A knitted mink beret is more suitable for young girls; with its help you can create a wonderful image of a business woman. It is combined with short mink or arctic fox coats, so popular among motorists.
Mink knitted hats are more suitable for respectable girls leading an active lifestyle. They are very practical, do not require special care and take up little space.
