Greetings, dear readers!
In our family, the collection of women's clothing has been replenished with new sheepskin coats and leather jackets, in addition to 20 kg of all sorts of T-shirts, skirts, denim and leather shoes. Yes, a trip to Istanbul cannot be complete without such acquisitions, especially if you have ladies with you.
In this article I will tell you how to make women’s dreams come true for reasonable sums and at the same time spend a minimum of precious time, which is so necessary in the city with incredible surroundings of Istanbul and its environs.
In general, the question of where to buy a fur coat in Turkey will be solved for you on your own! Follow me, please))
I want a sheepskin coat, period
I think you have had to deal with similar vagaries. And recently, at one event, the female team explained that a good fur coat or sheepskin coat (at worst) is a must-have for a woman over 30 , and without it, no further progress in a relationship can be expected.
Having looked around in my native Crimea for leather and fur products and realizing that I categorically disagree with such prices, I quickly countered the offer with the phrase . ” Well, since Türkiye was outside the window, the promise had to be fulfilled.
The purchase was postponed until the last day of my stay in Istanbul, which made me happy, since I wouldn’t have to carry this skunk with me to all public places and carry it in a rental car. But it bothered my wife with the fantastic scenario “all stores will be closed!” .
But still, the happy end of our story was officially recorded and the Azerbaijan Airlines planes regularly transported the treasured acquisition in hand luggage: a sheepskin coat and a jacket.
There was no question of putting this new addition to the home collection into luggage.
Turkey is famous for its workshops for processing leather and sewing signature wardrobe items from this material. Therefore, if you want to buy a fur coat with leather inserts on the sleeves, pockets, belt and hem, choosing from the collections allows you to do this.
Popular shopping regions
The largest selection of fur products in Istanbul, Ankara and the resorts of Antalya, Side and Kemer. You can buy a new thing during a tourist tour, or go shopping for it yourself, or you can stay at home and take a closer look at the model ranges from Turkey in our online store.
How do Turkish fur coats differ from products from other countries?
First of all, the fact that most factory products are sewn taking into account ancient traditions and many parts are created by hand. In addition to this, the product has the following features:
· frequent combination with skin;
· popular wolf and fox fur coats;
· Various fittings options.
Among the collections, as a rule, designers present a classic long model range, and in addition to this you can find short fur coats with an even or fitted cut. Vests are in abundance, so popular in the past and again this season. You can choose from short sleeves or no sleeves at all. Turkish fur products are famous for the fact that they come to fashionistas in various shades, because local craftsmen know the recipes for successfully mixing dyes that are resistant to:
· low temperatures;
· high humidity;
· Frequent wear.
There are classic black, brown and white options to choose from, as well as bold shades: blue, pink, yellow, burgundy.
Fur coats from Turkey are distinguished by their affordable price and high quality. The products are certified and manufactured according to all standards in compliance with fundamental rules and technologies. Locally produced natural silk is used for the lining, and the fur will delight its owners with the attractive appearance for a long time. The fur is thick, does not tangle, is long and fits correctly over the entire product, and over time it does not break or wear off.
Popular series
You can choose products from one type of valuable fur, or combining several: mouton, fox, wolf. Often these types are trimmed with collars and pockets. Premium lines are presented in sable. Such a fur coat will complement the winter image of girls who value classics and those who prefer a simple and light urban look.
Special attention should be paid to mink coats, which are grown in factories in Turkey itself and imported from other countries, in particular Canada and Russia. You can choose a top wardrobe item with a collar and a neat V-neck, and you should also pay attention to models with a massive hooded collar. Author's collections with an asymmetrical hem, diagonal fastening, and trimming the sides and hem with whole skins of fur-bearing animals are also available.
Caring for fur coats from Turkey is traditional for all similar products. Before long-term storage, the fur must be dried and the closet or wardrobe must be protected from moths.
Where to look for a fur coat in Istanbul
Before leaving, as usual, I consulted Internet experts and close friends about where to go in multi-million-dollar Istanbul, so that, firstly, I would be at the right place, and secondly, I would not go into convulsions looking at price tags of $1000 and above.
The regions of Laleli and Merte were in the news. But neither one nor the other fit specifically, but were only listed in vague descriptions “there should be fur coats there anyway, I heard somewhere .
Upon further immersion in the topic, I realized that I needed to go to the Zaytinburnu district, or rather to its southern part, where the factories and their branded stores are located.
But a problem arose. If you read my articles about the districts of Istanbul here and here, and even look at its map, you will understand that the Zaytinburnu district is the size of Yalta or even larger. So arriving at the metro station of the same name will give you absolutely nothing.
Without knowledge of the matter, you will still spend half a day jumping from dolmush to dolmush to find what you are looking for. It's easier to give up and order a taxi.
And then the owner of our hotel helped out with his philosophical saying - the amount of money you take with you is the amount you will leave there! According to his concepts, prices there are taken from the ceiling, and then divided by 2 or multiplied by 3 depending on the external performance characteristics of buyers and their loyalty.
Our path to the goal
After spending the whole morning reading reviews from happy customers and their recommendations, I realized that we desperately needed to get to the southern tip of Zeytinburnu , or rather to the place where the winding Kennedy Coastal Highway skirts the seaside park.
In general, here it is:
The same cutting and sewing factories are located here; the main contender for the possession of my money was supposed to be the Visto . It seems like this is where the union of price and quality gives rise to unsurpassed offers of quality products at reasonable prices.
Let's go!
From our base at the Oban Suites Istanbul hotel, we needed to go down to the Sea of Marmara and the aforementioned Kennedy Highway and there, in the party district of Kumkapi, make a strategic landing on a passing bus.
At that time, I possessed secret knowledge - the name of the stop at which the bus was supposed to open and the bus to first brake as if by magic.
Unfortunately, my memory, after the last emptying of the Recycle Bin, erased this phrase. So I won’t tell you the name of the stop. I remember that there was a pedestrian bridge overhead, and across the road was that same park and “it’s a tree.”
But, in case of your trip, kind people will help you and lead you on the right path.
And Google, handsome guy, remembers everything. Exactly! The stop is called 5 brothers . And in Turkish it’s written here on the map))
Stores, selection and prices
Having dismounted in a given area, we set out on reconnaissance in force. The guide to getting inside was the “Leather & Fur” with slight variations on the theme of the store names.
Since it was Sunday (how did this happen?), not all the shops were open, and there were simply no people there. Small inclusions of international couples did not cause much excitement.
In the end, we only went to three stores and we didn’t get away from the third one.
We only managed to visit 3 locations before making a wonderful purchase:
- In the first Best , in addition to leather jackets, the main emphasis was on bags and shoes. There were several promotions going on here, so we paid about $60 for wonderful women’s sandals and a leather handbag. Go ahead.
- Derimod store was absolutely huge. Several floors with different themes, but the prices at the start were not rosy. All short options started at $400, and the extended ones had a starting price of $600. It is clear that we are discussing all this and that with the help of pressure and crawling on our knees we can bargain before leaving for our homeland. But there was nothing to fight for. All the models were some kind of leftovers and did not sympathize with me or my wife at all, except for one red “auto-lady” for 400 dollars)) But this is too much!
- But the third Deri Sarayı turned out to be what was needed.
Prices 2018
You can buy a fur coat in Turkey relatively inexpensively. The price range is from 300 to 500 dollars, but there are fur coats that are more expensive, ranging from 2500 to 3000 dollars. But if they ask you for more, be on guard: they want to rob you . Remember these prices and don’t be alarmed if sellers give you other numbers, just start haggling!
Note: you can buy a good fur coat in Turkey for 700 - 1000 USD, but if you want to make an individual order, the cost of the product will increase by at least 2.5 - 3 times.
Tour operators advise buying fur coats from fur factories, since in markets, and even in company stores, unscrupulous sellers can add hundreds of percent to the price set by the factory.
We take a sheepskin coat, a jacket, drink coffee and rejoice at the purchase
Everything here turned out to be even simpler than we expected. At the entrance we were met by a tall Turk who, with a funny accent, spoke normal Russian. Having defined the boundaries of what was reasonable, he immediately led us to a stand of sheepskin coats with residual prices. Prices were around 200-300 dollars without the right to trade, discounts, installments and collateral loans.
It was even easier that way! You could immediately calculate your capabilities and take such a step towards an acquisition that would not harm your mental or financial state.
The result of the deal is $400 and a wonderful denim jacket ($150) and a cute double-sided sheepskin coat, about which you can’t say “dressed inside out” ($250).
And we didn’t take the cheapest positions yet! It was possible to buy it a little cheaper, but the style was clearly more “classical”.
In the far part of the hall there were new models, dressed in fur, which were already more expensive.
Since we were not given a discount in the end, we had to pay with a credit card rather than cash, but this is not a problem at all.
During the purchase process, we were also given luxurious Turkish coffee and, just in case, were forbidden to photograph the collections.
During the course of the play, I also clarified this. There are companies that sew clothes at their own manufacturing factories, and there are those that purchase raw materials from other manufacturers. So the first ones have a wider range of prices, thanks to their own production.
Although... maybe all this is just another move to beautifully fill naive tourists with the reasonableness of price and quality and the final cost of the purchase.
Don't know. But my wife is happy!!
How much does a fur coat cost in Turkey?
The price of mink coats in Turkey is also a separate issue, because here it can be different than anywhere else. As a rule, sellers make a large and unjustified markup, so you will have to bargain well - where would you be without this in the east? In stores outside the factory, you can easily reduce the price by 2-2.5 times, and this is a very significant amount!
The price range at factories is from 500 dollars for a short sheepskin coat and up to 3000 for a long (knee-length) product with a hood. Bargaining is also appropriate here, but they will give you a discount of no more than 20-30%, which is also very good - production prices are already low.
However, keep in mind that a mink coat in Turkey is unlikely to cost more than $3,000. If you are offered a model for 4-5 thousand, feel free to reduce the price by almost half - this will double the real cost of the mink.
Turkish fur coats: rules of choice
When choosing mink in Turkey, you should be especially careful, because the east is not only a delicate matter, but also a tricky one. So, a few rules for choosing and purchasing fur in Turkey:
- If you definitely decide to buy a mink coat during your trip, prepare in advance by studying the main places, reviews and prices on travel forums. It would also be a good idea to go to the shops in your hometown, try on the model you like and fix the price for it - in Turkey, the same model should not cost more. We also advise you to go through Turkish online stores in advance, ask the price, study the assortment, and perhaps arrange to meet you at the hotel (almost all Turkish sellers speak good Russian).
- Avoid Turkish barkers praising their product and its cost - go clearly to the designated places.
- Study the quality of the fur very carefully! This is very important, because in small shops you will find such a variety of fakes that it simply dazzles your eyes. What the Turks don’t pass off as mink: rabbit, and even fake fur! Identifying a good mink is not easy, but you can:
— the pile is shiny, of the same length in all areas;
— the underfur should be evenly thick, as in the photo;
Run your hand over the fur: it should quickly return to its original state, it should not fall out, and there should be no creases in the folds;
- the flesh should be light, not shriveled, but not stretched;
- the seams must be even, made with threads of the same color (if the threads are different, it means the fur coat has been altered).
- A nice feature of shopping in Turkey is the opportunity to return product tax (Tax Free) in the amount of 12.5% of the purchase price. But to do this, you must preserve the weight of the receipt and guarantee, and the main thing is to carefully ensure that the seller writes in it exactly the product that you bought, and the receipt did not indicate that the product was purchased at a discount. Otherwise, the tax at customs will not be reimbursed to you.
As you can see, by following some rules, shopping in Turkey can be profitable, enjoyable, and of high quality. Happy shopping!

About shopping in general
Friends, you can get all kinds of consumer goods, even in Istanbul, anywhere. Walk around the Grand Bazaar , where everything is sold and a specific area is dedicated to each group of goods. I will say this, if you have more than 100 liras (1000 rubles) in your pocket, then you may already need a bag, since you simply cannot carry so many purchases in your hands.
Better quality items should be bought in shopping malls and shops located on Istiklal Street and the central Ordu Caddesi Street in the Laleli area , where the tram runs. For good local orientation, read my articles about Istanbul districts and public transport.
Here's the guideline:
You can go to one of the outlet centers. The main thing is to find out how to comfortably get to them from your place of residence. We chose the Olivium Outlet Center , firstly, based on a recommendation, and secondly, there is a direct bus from the Grand Bazaar to it.
Well, one last piece of advice!
Do not immediately rush to the stocks of international brands ; usually the prices there are not much different from the usual prices. But local Turkish stores have a huge selection, high-quality tailoring and reasonable prices. For $100 in one of these stores, we dressed, as they say, the whole family! Although in Sevastopol you can only buy 2 pairs of jeans with this money.
Here is Olivium on Google map:
Tips from experienced shopaholics
When going shopping, decide where and how you can buy a fur coat in Turkey yourself.
If you want to save money on a purchase, think carefully about your route and plan all your actions. If you want to relax comfortably and don’t want to strain yourself, order a transfer that is offered by large shopping centers.
Going on a shub tour on your own
You can go to Turkey on your own. In this case, you yourself will have to worry about booking hotel rooms, tickets and flights, and you will have to build your own route through fur factories or shops.
But what is an organized fur tour? What it is? You contact the agency that is organizing your trip. In this case, we are talking about a group trip.
By contacting a tour operator, you save on flights and hotels, since the operators of the two countries cooperate and, due to the flow of tourists, can offer good conditions.
There is also a chance that you will come across a last minute tour. In this case, you can save a lot! Moreover, you don’t have to plan routes, because the agency employees do this, and you will be offered to visit stores where you can make profitable purchases and buy a good Turkish fur coat!
How much will such a trip cost? - you ask. The cost of the trip directly depends on the class you choose, the length of your stay in Turkey, the time of year of your trip and other factors. On average, the trip will cost you 20-40 thousand rubles per person. When purchasing 2 or more vouchers, you can count on a discount.
Learning to bargain
The Turks are a cunning people. Don’t feed them bread, let them bargain, so be on the lookout and if you want to know how to buy a fur coat in Turkey inexpensively, follow these tips:
- Check what you buy carefully. Check the quality of the seams, whether the stitching is even, and whether they are made with the same thread color. If you see flaws, you may suspect that the product has been altered.
- Check the quality of the fur paint; it should not remain on your hands.
- Smell the fur coat. It shouldn't smell bad. A bad smell remains when the flesh is poorly processed. It does not fade even with time.
- Always ask the seller for a certificate for a fur coat, especially if in doubt.
- In order to get your Tax Free refund at the airport, make sure that the seller writes down the type of fur coat you bought. For example, if you are buying a fur coat made from astrakhan fur, it must be indicated that it is astrakhan fur, and not a fox or raccoon. In case of non-compliance, the tax will not be returned to you and the seller will receive it himself.
- Search the Internet for online stores in the city you are staying in. On the store’s website you can choose any fur coat model you like. Contact a consultant and they will send a car for you and bring you to the store. And if it turns out on the spot that you don’t like the fur coat, refuse to buy, no one has the right to oblige you to buy a fur coat.
Well, the last rule for successfully buying a fur coat in Turkey is bidding .
Bargain until the last minute, despite the fact that the seller claims that you are robbing him! [Total: 68 Average: 3/5]
